DIY: Gradient Red Hair (w/ Pastel Pink)

HEY YALL
I dyed my hair a few days back hehe (as many of you might have seen on instagram)
Many couldn't believe that it was actually done at home and DIYed
Last year it was done by my patient friends and this year it was all done by Ritche <3

So here's the outcome after about 7 hours (including waiting time and all)

You can rather clearly see the gradient and a hint of pastel pink at the ends!
The pink part didn't turn out to be as obvious as i wanted it to be
But i like just that bit of contrast rather than all red!

Ok so here comes the process to achieve the gradient look (less vibrant roots and more vibrant ends)
I have always done it this way so when your hair actually grows out, it wouldn't look like the nightmare everyone faces
The horrible black hair against bright bleached hair then you'll just have to keep on touching up until all your hair falls off???
When your hair grows out with this method you practically can't tell at all
No one has ever asked "omg mel time to touch up your hair" or anything of that sort!!
Last year when i dyed my hair red, i left it that way until like a few days ago when i dyed it again (1 year intervals LOL)
I think it was completely ok and at least you know it isn't too much damage on your hair

Here are the things that you would need:

Hi-Bleach ($3.90) from Chinatown, x2
Gatsby Natural Bleach ($8) can be bought from watsons or whatsoever
Plastic Gloves
Plastic Container to mix the Hi-Bleach
Stirrer
Scissors
Tissue in case it gets messy
La Riche Hair Dye in Fire and Pink ($10 each) and i needed 2 and a half bottles

It's not everywhere that you'll see the HiBleach that i'm using
But apparently when i did some research on google, they always say that it's the bleach salons would actually use
And since it's the 4th time using it and how good it has been i have never seen any reason to change the bleach i use!

To get to the shop that actually sells the Hi-Bleach, you just have to go out from exit C @ Chinatown MRT
and you'll see a coffeeshop in front of you, go up 1 floor and you'll see a shop at the end selling super cheap stuff and daily essentials
Then just ask the people to bring you to the bleach section (cause the shop layout is super messy and it's ALWAYS crowded)
The cover used on the packaging is always a super old school pic lol

As for the La Riche dye it's actually from UK so there are many online shops that do preorders for it
It usually costs between $10 to $15 per bottle
If you're a guy i would suggest using 1 bottle, for me i used 3 cause my hair is really thick!!

So here's how i got it done~~

1. You'll have to start off with the HiBleach! So mix the conditioner with the powder (contents within the box)
2. Put the HiBleach at the ends (maybe 1/3 of your hair) and spread it EVENLY
<< Putting it EVENLY is super important because if one patch in your hair has more bleach it'll already turn WAYYY lighter than the rest
3. Just leave it there for about an hr after you're done applying it, or until you get the desired shade.
it should be of an orangey shade and the brighter it is, the colour of your dye would be more obvious on your hair of course
4. Wash it off and start preparing for the Gatsby "Natural Bleach"

5. Mix the contents in the Gatsby Natural Bleach and start off with all the parts unbleached WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ROOTS
(you dont have to go over the parts that already have the hi-bleach if not your hair may be super susceptible to breakage)
Also ensure that your hair is dry from washing it before this.
6. After maybe 45minutes to over an hr you can start applying it on your roots, and wash off after 20minutes
7. You should already be able to see the gradient from your roots to the ends~~~~

Some people might be afraid to bleach their roots but i feel that it's essential if not the colour is almost not visible AT ALL
And cause it's "Natural Bleach" it's a lot less harmful compared to the usual hi-bleach you might use
Many people say that it's really painful bleaching their roots but for the natural bleach there wasn't any pain, at least not for me!
Just don't put it on for too long, you wouldn't want to damage your roots

8. The dyeing of hair is surprisingly the EASIEST part to the whole process! Just put it evenly everywhere
9. If you would like pastel pink ends like mine then don't put the red dye over the ends. You can leave the dye for about 1.5 hours!
10. You can also use a shower cap to trap the heat and use a hair dryer, so that the colour would stay on for longer apparently
But lazy me isn't concerned about such stuff hahaha and i could swear it's damn hot and troublesome to do it
I always end up burning my scalp wtf

TADAHHHHHHHHHH
Yes i did it with my boyfriend so it was less sian for me and for him as well and we are both loving our hairdos
For mine, i spent about $36 worth of products to get it done and for Ritche, his only costs like $20 or less lol
I could swear that if you did it at the salon it'll be super duper expensive, a few hundreds
and idk why, but it seems that my friend's hair colour always fades really fast when it's been done at the salon
If you do it at a cheaper salon you really might not be able to achieve the actual look you might want so why not just trust yourself to do it on your own!!

Had to rush out to meet tonglin for our last outing before she flies back to UK :''''''''''''''''''''(

Hair colour when taken using my phone's camera hehe

Met her at Teoheng, Rendezvous hotel located at Bras Basah!
We got the medium sized room and between 4 to 7pm it's only $20 lol

We recorded quite a few songs like Zui Chang De Dian Ying, Jie Kou, Yong Qi cause most of the songs i know are Jaychou (only) LOL
Had lotsa fun doing it together hehehe

Tonglin and i used to play the piano together (on 2 separate pianos) and we even went for a competition for it!
Just singing with her brings back so many memories from back then haha

Went for some NENE Chicken at Scape before we went to catch our late night movie at cineleisure!

We went to catch If I Stay and it was really quite a crappy movie sadly
I HAD SUCH HIGH EXPECTATIONS LOL
The storyline was very average and a little draggy and the ending was just made the whole cinema go "WHAT THE HELL?" "HUH THATS ALL AH?" "WTF" "LAME"
And it was 2 hours HAHA walao could have caught a better movie!!!

Well that sums up my rather eventful day, from doing my hair, to meeting up with tonglin, going to karaoke and watching a movie!

Here's a throwback photo to when i first bleached my hair red hehehe
It was fully red, i didn't add any other colour to it back then!
and here's the old blog post if you want to see how it was like a year ago of course
 http://meloided.blogspot.sg/2013/04/gradient-red-hair.html

I hope you guys would try it out on your own instead of spending so much money at the salon!
You could try even more daring hairdos and just experiment with whatever you can get your hands on~

Alright till next time!!
